Alameda is in California, on the West Coast, where the climate ranges from foggy coast to hot inland valleys, wildfire season can affect air quality in late summer, and traffic is the main thing to plan around. Getting around Alameda is easiest by car; street parking is metered in busy downtown areas, and most suburban businesses have their own lot. Ride-share apps such as Uber and Lyft operate across California's larger cities, and public transit varies from extensive to minimal.

We had brisket, cheeks, and beef short ribs. The short ribs are the only thing worth getting imo. It had the proper balance of fat, tenderness, smoke and rub. The brisket is fine but doesn’t compare. Part of the issue is their rub is very salty. They need to fix this β€” maybe 30% less salt and it’d be bomb. And this is coming from a guy who has a high tolerance for salt. If you get an end piece of brisket that has more rub it can be difficult to eat for more sensitive folks. The other issue with the brisket is β€” not enough smoke. The fat cap lacked the infusion of smoke that i got from the short ribs. Perhaps it was just an unlucky cut. I’m reading online that they use almond wood as well, so maybe I don’t like almond wood /shrug Finally, I really wish they posted descriptions of their Indonesian dishes on the menu. I had to google a bunch but still couldn’t find some.

I drove a long way specifically to try this halal BBQ steakhouse β€” and it was absolutely worth it! Finding a halal steakhouse is so rare, and this place did not disappoint. I ordered three cuts: Brisket, Dino Ribs, and Beef Back Ribs. As a foodie with a trained palate, here’s my honest breakdown: The Brisket was well-cooked with good flavor, but leaned a little on the lean side for my personal taste β€” I prefer my meat with a bit more juiciness and fat. Still solid, and great for those who prefer a leaner cut. The Dino Ribs were the absolute star of the meal. The flavor was incredible β€” rich, tender, with just the right amount of natural, sticky fat. Truly outstanding. This is a must-order! The Beef Back Ribs were also delicious and similar in texture to the Dino Ribs, but came with a sweet marinade that made them slightly sweeter in flavor. My top pick: Dino Ribs β€” 10/10, no question. Highly recommend this place to anyone searching for quality halal BBQ!

I tried their food when they were selling it in Facebook marketplace around 2020. Their fusion of Indonesian and Texas bbq was really cool, and the first dish I tried back then was their brisket soto, which was truly amazing and creative. When I heard that they were opening a brick and mortar in 2023, I had been wanting to go, but insane hype made it nearly impossible to go to, until now. For two people, we (I) got way too much, but also it was nice that we could try nearly all of their main items on the menu. Starting with the starters, we got their nasi goreng and the smoked ayam lumpia. Their nasi goreng was average at best, it did not have any wok hei and didn’t taste like nasi goreng that I knew and loved. The smoked ayam lumpia was pretty good, they were very generous with the meat, but it was nothing special. Next was the bbq meats: the brisket, beef back rib. and jalapeno cheese beef sausage. These meats overall showed the biggest problem we had, it was all very salty. I am not sure whether it was just a fluke, but every meat was quite salty and we felt like we needed more rice to balance it out. The brisket had a nice flavor minus the saltiness, but we did get the flat,

We arrived 40 minutes early on a Sunday to ensure we had good position in line. Everyone in line was treated to a delicious sample just before opening, very kind! We ordered 2x dino ribs, brisket, beef cheek, jalapeΓ±o sausage, nasi goreng, lumpia, rendang, and a cendol. Everything was very delicious and the service was great! Only critique is - where is the heat?! Please offer sambal or a spicy sauce. Both sauces were a bit too sweet for our taste.

Fikscue Craft BBQ popped up on my social media feed, and the concept of Indonesian cuisine with a BBQ twist immediately caught my attention. I stopped by on a Saturday afternoon before 2 PM, fully expecting a long wait after hearing how busy it can getβ€”but to my surprise, it wasn’t too bad. One thing to note is that there is very limited seating at Fikscue itself. However, there’s a beer spot next door where you’re allowed to sit as long as you order from them, which is a nice workaround and makes the experience more relaxed. Unfortunately, they were already sold out of ribs, which was disappointing since ribs are my favorite type of BBQ. That said, the food we did order more than made up for it. We had the rendang plate, brisket, sausage, lumpia, and potato salad, and everything came out delicious. The flavors were bold, well-balanced, and satisfying, with generous portions. I also liked that they offer different sauce options for the rendang and lumpia, which added variety and depth to the meal. The employees were friendly and welcoming, rounding out a great overall experience. While I’m still hoping to catch the ribs on a future visit, I’d definitely go back again if I’m in
